How to Store Fragile & Sensitive Items in Your Storage Unit

Protecting Your Valuables: Expert Wrapping & Storage Tips for Pomona

Are you storing important documents, Cal Poly Pomona college gear, family heirlooms, electronics, or valuable furniture in Pomona? With Southern California's temperature extremes—often topping 110 degrees in summer—proper wrapping and packing techniques are essential to protect your belongings. Storage Outlet Pomona at 150 County Rd provides secure, ground-level storage units with 24-hour security cameras and convenient drive-up access, making it easy to safely store your valuables when you use the right packing methods.

Essential Wrapping & Packing Techniques

Electronics & Appliances: Remove all batteries to prevent corrosion. Wrap items in anti-static bubble wrap or original packaging. Cover screens with cardboard sheets. Place wrapped electronics in sturdy boxes with packing paper filling gaps. Store off the ground and never stack heavy items on top of electronic boxes.

Important Documents & Photographs: Use acid-free archival folders and boxes for long-term document storage. Store documents flat, never folded. Place photographs in photo-safe sleeves. Make digital backups of critical papers before storage. Store document boxes inside plastic storage bins with secure lids for double protection against dust.

Furniture & Wooden Items: Clean furniture thoroughly and apply wood polish to create a protective barrier. Wrap in clean moving blankets or furniture pads—NEVER plastic wrap which traps moisture and damages finishes. Use corner protectors on tables and dressers. Store furniture on pallets to keep items off the ground.

Clothing & Fabrics: Wash or dry-clean ALL clothing before storage—stains become permanent over time and attract pests. Use sturdy wardrobe boxes for hanging garments. Store folded items in clean plastic bins with secure lids. Add cedar blocks as natural pest deterrents. Wrap wedding dresses in acid-free tissue paper before placing in breathable garment bags.

Artwork & Mirrors: Wrap glass in bubble wrap with corner protectors. Store paintings and framed art vertically, never flat. Apply painter's tape in an "X" pattern across mirrors before wrapping—if glass breaks, tape holds pieces together. Label all items "FRAGILE - GLASS" clearly.
